The book is based on the photographer´s travels to conflict areas in different parts of the world from 2008 up to the present day. It presents images of destroyed infrastructure and disintegrating societies, of landscapes and nature in crisis, —the result of a global community unable to deal with problems and conflicts that threaten a fragile human existence. The book reveals the tension the photographer experiences between impressions and encounters from these vulnerable places and life at home, surrounded by family and safety. Rønning does not rely on grand gestures or explicit iconography in his images; instead, the stories are told through hints and a subtle visual language. Rønning has worked in the humanitarian sector since 2008.
